The speaker recommends value initialization (int x{};) as the solution. And it is. But it has been the solution since C++11, fourteen years ago. If the community had universally adopted value initialization in 2011, we wouldn’t need erroneous behavior in 2023. The fact that we needed a language change to mitigate the consequences of developers not using a feature we’ve had for over a decade is itself an argument against the opt-in approach.
